The IELTS Academic test measures your English language skills, especially those skills that are needed when you are studying at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels or in professional work. The Academic test is a measure of your English-language proficiency in the four skill sets, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening and Speaking parts of the test are the same for both Academic and General, while the Reading and Writing parts are different.
