IELTS Exam Structure
The exam is designed to evaluate the English proficiency of non-native English speakers who wish to pursue employment opportunities in English-speaking countries. The IELTS exam is graded from 0 to 9, where 0 represents the lowest possible score and 9 is the highest score.
The IELTS exam has two modules:
- Academic Module: The Academic exam is for students who want to study in foreign colleges or universities.
- General Training Module: The General Training Module is designed for people who are focusing on working in foreign countries or for immigration purposes.
The IELTS exam structure is divided into four sections:
- Writing (60 minutes)
- Listening (30 minutes)
- Reading (60 minutes)
- Speaking (11-14 minutes)
Writing: The Writing test consists of two tasks and both tasks should be completed in one hour in both modules. Answers must be written in full sentences, not as notes or bullet points. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the candidate’s capacity for effective writing.
Listening: The Listening test has four parts with ten questions in all parts and each question consists of one mark. The approximate time limit for the exam is thirty minutes (an additional 10 minutes will provided to candidates to transfer the answers to an answer sheet).
Reading: The Reading test has 3 passages, each followed by 40 questions. Every right answer receives one mark for it. The questions are designed to test the candidate’s skills in reading the English language.
Speaking: The Speaking test will be conducted as a face-to-face interview between the candidate and the examiner. The test consists of three parts, each of which has a set of tasks designed to test the candidate’s speaking skills in a different way.
